Iraq War: Bush on the issues - or rather, around them

Bob McElvaine summarizes the results of Bush's War in Iraq.  This is from a couple of months ago, but things have only gotten worse in that time:  Bush evading hard issues by odd positions Jackson (MS) Clarion-Ledger 07/16/04.

Before Mr. Bush's folly in Iraq, the United States had worldwide cooperation in the War against Terror. As a result of his insistence on going to war in Iraq without good reason, much of the rest of the world has turned against us.

Before the Iraq War, our military was concentrated in Afghanistan, seeking the real enemy, Osama bin Laden. Since the president decided to focus instead on the diversion in Iraq, the war against terror in Afghanistan has been left with very inadequate resources.

Before the War in Iraq, al-Qaida had no operations in Iraq. Now it apparently is using Iraq as a base of operations.

Before Mr. Bush's War in Iraq, the number of Islamic terrorists was relatively small. His war has been bin Laden's recruiting tool, turning millions of Muslims adamantly against the United States, inducing an unknown number of them to join the terror campaign.

Yep, that pretty much sums things up.

There is a terrible irony in a soldier who believes that invading Iraq is the right thing to do and returning home wondering if he did the right thing based on public opinion!

There were numerous men and women who died so we all could ride into victory in baghdad.  Now I'm home reading and listening to all the opinions about what we failed to accomplish.

Do you believe everything you read?  Please go on vacation over in Iraq. Get away from your safe enviroment and live on the edge for a while.

We did it... for you!

If this last comment had anything to do with the very real issues mentioned in the quotations from McElvaine, I failed to see what it was.

If pretending that everything is going fine in the war were all it took to make it so, the crowd at Fox News would have already won the war three times over. - Bruce
