Deadly terrorist attack in Madrid

I just saw the early reports of a terrorist attack in Madrid. Four bombs went off simultaneously in coordination at different parts of the Spanish capital.

El PaĆs reports 131 dead and around 400 wounded. El Mundo reports 142 dead and more than 400 injured.

The domestic Spanish Basque terrorist group ETA is being blamed for the attacks. Their goal appears to be to disrupt the national parliamentary elections taking place this coming Sunday. El Mundo says this is the bloodiest attack ever by ETA.

Horrible.

The timing of secondary IEDs to coincide with emergency response teams indicates al Qaeda influence, but doesn't substantiate the claim.

The casualty toll climbs. I can only hope the swiftness and severity of justice increases as well.

Yes, it's by no means entirely clear that this was an ETA attack, although that's still the Spanish government's official theory. - Bruce
