Al-Qaeda Tape on the Madrid Attacks

After having experienced the war fever after the 9/11attacks in the US - and I use the word "experienced" rather than "observed" deliberately - I'm making a real effort not to jump to conclusions about the unfolding news story on the Madrid bombings.

Keeping in mind that just a year ago we went into the Iraq War based on deliberately misrepresented intelligence claims, the following is my translation of the Spanish text of the video claiming to be from al-Qaeda that the Spanish police have found: El Mundo 03/04/04.

We declare our repsonsibility for what has happened in Madrid, exactly two and a half years after the attacks in New York and Washington. It is a response to your collaboration with the criminals Bush and his allies.

This is as a response to the crimes that you have caused in the world and in particular in Iraq and Afghanistan and you will have more, if God wills it.

You love life and we love the death that gives an example of what the Prophet Muhammed said, if you don't cease your injustices there will be more and more blood, and these attack are very small compared to what could occur through what you would call terrorism.

This is a warning from the military spokesman of al-Qaeda in Europe.

ABU DUJAN AL AFGHANI [this is supposedly the name of an individual]
