Ramsey Clark, former US Attorney General and now Saddam's defense attorney

This is a portrait of Ramsey Clark, the unique character who was Lyndon Johnson's Attorney General and is now defending Saddam Hussein in Iraq: Now defending Saddam, Clark has long list of controversial clients by Dave Montgomery and Leila Fadel, Knight-Ridder 12/05/05.

I've wondered what led Clark over the years to take on such unsavory clients.  Not just take them on but apparently seek them out.  This article at least gives some hints.

Maybe he just likes being controversial.
