Conservative oppression

I'm sure we'll see lot of arguments and a mass of disinformation spraying from the Republican echo chamber over the Plame case in the news few days and weeks.

Here's one that lays out a couple of broad lines of argument, with specific reference to Tom DeLay, Bill Frist, Karl Rove and Scooter Libby: Criminalizing Conservatives by William Kristol and Jeffrey Bell Weekly Standard 10/24/2005 issue (accessed 10/17/05).

They come down to:

1) Everybody does it.  Leaking government secrets, that is.  Bill Kristol seems to think than an undercover CIA agent is outed every couple of days or so.  No big deal.  Just good ole boys having fun.

2) It's political.  And The Left is using this scandal to pick on us poor, persecuted conservatives boo-hoo-hoo!

It's generally a bad sign for the defendants and potential defendants when their defenders resort to, "everybody does it."

But, gosh, it really worries me that the sturdy neocons at the Weekly Standard are feeling so persecuted.

Of course, we could speculate that it's totally phony whining.  But we wouldn't want to hurt their feelings even more.
