Iraq War: And We Think Bush Has Credibility Problems

The Australian Senate earlier this week passed a resolution censuring Prime Minister John Howard for lying about the "weapons of mass destruction" in joining with the US and Britain in the Iraq War.

The text of the censure resolution, as found in the Journals of the Senate (see pp. 15-16 of the PDF file), says that the Australian Senate:

(a) notes:

(i) that no evidence has been produced to date by the Prime Minister to justify his claims that as at March 2003, Iraq possessed stockpiles of completed biological and chemical weapons that justified going to war;

(b) censures the Prime Minister for misleading the Australian Parliament and the Australian people in his justification for taking this country to war with Iraq.

This was an amended version of the resolution that was initiatially offered, which had included a specific reference to Bush in clause (b), and thus would have censored Howard for supporting Bush on the war. The censure is still there, but the naming of Bush is omitted.
