Chuckie Watch 54: Chuckie, torture and The Media

Chuckie's been listenin' to press coverage of the torture issue.  Apparently he doesn't have easy access to Fox News on tour.  So he's been reading flaming liberal propaganda outlets like USA Today.  And Chuckie don't like it: Prisoners and Unmitigated Bias.

We have 130,000 military personnel in Iraq. How many were involved in this atrocity? 10? 20? 30? And yet to listen to Kennedy and his ilk, or the major media you would think that they were all involved.

Uh, not really, Chuckie.  In fact, every politician I've heard talking about the torture issue makes a point of saying that this should not reflect badly on the "99.9%" of the American soldiers there who weren't involved.  I hope the 99.9% figure is correct; some of the reports I'm seeing about breakdown in discipline in other ways makes me worry.  But I'm sure Chuckie don't care about that either.  As long as The Media don't talk about it none.

Chuckie asks:

Will somebody please tell me why [Peter] Jennings, [Dan] Rather and crew are more concerned about the welfare of Iraqi religious zealots who are bent on the destruction of everything we stand for than they are about the welfare of innocent American citizens?

Chuckie, maybe you should try watching their programs instead of just repeating what you hear on Oxycontin radio.  Chuckie must have inside information, though.  I haven't seen any reports showing that those subjected to torture in Abu Ghuraib were "religious zealots." Or even that they were legitimate suspects.

The American public was well informed weeks ago and it’s time to move on. The situation is well in hand, is being dealt with and all the media is accomplishing by whipping this dead horse is giving encouragement to an enemy who needs no further motivation.

Is the beheading of Nick Berg important to you people? Or doesn’t it matter? Why are you giving a gang of bloodthirsty murderers a free pass while you rub America’s nose in the fact that a few soldiers did some very foolish things?

I've got to research the recent issues of USA Today to find where they argued that Nick Berg's murderers should get "a free pass."  Chuckie, are you sure that wasn't a letter to the editor in some jihadist magazine you picked up by mistake?  That "Kill the American Infidels!" banner headline should have been your first clue that it wasn't USA Today you had in your hand.

Or maybe they have a special edition of USA Today down in Nashville that the rest of us don't get to see!

%First time I saw your journal or blog, or whatever. Joining midstream, I have to confess ignorance re: Chucky, but generally agree with him. You are so wrong. You were going to check papers to see about Nick Berg's murder getting a free pass? Did you? How much ink on the humiliating of some bad guys vs. the horrific slaughter of a civilian.

Every politician you heard talking about the torture issue makes a point of saying that 99.9% etc.. Who in the world are you listening to? If they all feel it's so negligible, why do they want Rumsfeld to resign?

Sounds like Chuckie is your guy!  No, sorry, still have come across those USA Today articles demanding that Berg's murdered get a "free pass." - Bruce
