From the "And you thought things were bad before ..." files

Republican Congressman John Hostettler of Indiana:

Hostettler ... asserted that "the long war on Christianity in America continues today on the floor of the House of Representatives" and "continues unabated with aid and comfort to those who would eradicate any vestige of our Christian heritage being supplied by the usual suspects, the Democrats."

"Like a moth to a flame, Democrats can't help themselves when it comes to denigrating and demonizing Christians," he said.
(GOP Congressman Calls Democrats Anti-Christian  by Mike Allen Washington Post 06/21/05)

I discuss this at more length on The Blue Voice today: Persecuted Christians?

I understand why some Christians feel persecuted -- at least, I think I do.

If you went around thinking that the world owed it to you to acknowledge your beliefs as "truth"  and your religion as the only path to God, you would soon begin to feel persecuted.

It's not that these folks face real persecution; rather, it is the gap between their unreasonable expectations and reality that causes their discomfort.  That discomfort has been on the increase lately, as the rest of us have begun to resist the push to engrave their prejudices and perverse interpretations of scripture into the law of the land.
