What a "San Francisco Democrat" sounds like

When the 1984 Democratic convention was held in San Francisco, Republican partisans coined the phrase "San Francisco Democrats" (nudge-nudge, wink-wink, gay, sissy, etc.).

House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi is the elected Congressional Representative from San Francisco.  Here's what a San Francisco Democrat sounds like for real. She was speaking about the plan to have President Bush and Vice President Cheney testify to the 9/11 Commission at the same time:

I think it speaks to the lack of confidence that the administration has in the president going forth alone, period. It's embarrassing to the president of the United States that they won't let him go in without holding the hand of the vice president of the United States.

I think it reinforces the idea that the president cannot go it alone. The president should stand tall, walk in the room himself and answer the questions.

Andy Jackson would be proud!

And you can bet he never had to ask John Calhoun or Martin Van Buren to hold his hand for anything.  (Actually he threatened to hang Calhoun at one point and said on his deathbed that he regretted he hadn't done so.)

The holding hands part is a nice little shot, too, especially coming from a "San Francisco Democrat."
