Chuckie Watch 112: The other Chuckie (an Old Hickory's Weblog exclusive!)

Yes, the story can now be told.  There is an Alternative Universe Chuckie.  Web connections to Alternative Chuckie aren't so stable right now.  But I can share the text of his latest message with you.

So, here in an Old Hickory's Weblog exclusive, is the first this-universe appearance of Alternative Chuckie:

*****************************************
Christians and Violence

I just want to say a few words to my fellow Christians about the problem of terrorism.  When I read the stories a couple of weeks ago about Eric Rudolph, it reminded me of the fact that there are people out there who commit acts of terrorism against innocents in the name of Jesus and Christianity.

I believe that Christians, both ministers and lay people, have a special responsibility to speak out against such acts.  When others here and around the world see Christian terrorists commit such acts in the name of our religion, it gives the impression that Christianity is a religion of violence and murder.

It's not enough for us to just shake our heads and say it's too bad and those aren't "real" Christians.  We have to create an atmosphere where no one but a tiny fringe will believe that such acts are Christian.

And we can't mealy-mouth about it.  To say, oh, bombing abortion clinics is wrong, and then in the next breath rant about how abortion in America is worse than the Holocaust won't convince anyone.  And those so inclined will claim such statements as apologies for violence.

That goes also for war, of course.  Christianity has for centuries had a doctrine of the Just War.  It's not meant to be a convenient excuse to claim that God is on our side.  It's meant to be a way for Christians to ask critical questions to try to make sure that we are on God's side.  And sometimes that may mean opposing our own governments when they try to wage an unjust war.

And the same obligation holds for Christians in the torture scandal.  There are many practical and political reasons that torturing prisoners is bad and self-destructive and undesirable.  But serious Christians know that inflicting deliberate and unnecessary cruelty on other human beings is wrong. And we shouldn't be afraid to say so.

And we have to challenge those who try to pretend that torture is part of God's will.  Here again, we have to defend our religion and the message of Jesus against people who try to pervert and degrade our religion to such ends.

Pray for our troops.  Pray for the victims of torture.  And pray that all will find a just peace in our current wars.

What do y'all think?

Alternative-Universe Chuckie
*****************************************

As we all know, the this-universe Chuckie ain't exactly like that.  In fact, ole Chuckie's been thanking lately about them there Islamic Clerics (08/01/05).

And Chuckie don't like it.  Islam that is.  Or Islamic clerics.  Or regular ole Muslims.

Chuckie says that he ain't heard enough Muslim preachers or eye-ma'ams or whatever they call themselves jumpin' up and down and damning The Terrorists to Hail.

Although the radical Islamic terrorist attacks have increased in the last year and I keep hearing and reading that Islam is a peaceful religion, I have seen little in the way of Muslim clerics coming forward to vehemently denounce these acts of murder.

In fact, Chuckie's so upset about this thang that he seems to have forgotten that we're supposed to be winning the global war on terror (GWOT).  Or the GSAVE (global struggle against violent extremism).  But, no, I heard Dear Leader Bush says he wants to go back to GWOT.  But whatever GTHANG it is, we're supposed to be winning it.  But ole Chuckie just slipped up there and says the problem is increasing!

You know, I kinda thank Chuckie just don't believe this here Islam is much count at all:

Isn’t the fact of the matter that an element within the Islamic world has gone berserk and totally out of control of everyone except the most radical mullahs and leaders like Osama Bin Ladin and the Al Qaida? ...

If that is the case where is the outcry, where is the indignation, where is the patriotism to your chosen country?

Chuckie just cain't imagine that a native-born Amurcan would ever be a Muslim, huh?

I'm even startin' to thank that Chuckie don't really care what any Muslim cleric says.  Chuckie just seems to thank all these here Muslims are out to git us, and we need to git them before they git us.

No, our-universe Chuckie ain't thankin' along the same lines as Alternative Universe Chuckie.

Steve Gilliard was just recently talking about some New York politician who was advocating racial profiling of Muslims types.  Gilliard doesn't think that idea makes much sense.  And what he says could also apply to what ole Chuckie says in his latest rant: Stop the (sand) negroes 08/03/05.

What a [Cheney]ing idiot. In the US, the only people who wear turbans are Sihks. Two of the London bombers were black. What? Do we stop every black person as well?

And if we stopped people who looked Arab, a [lot] of Israelis are gonna get stopped as well.

Can he tell a Hindu from a Muslim? No? Can he tell which Filipino is a Muslim? No? Can he detect a Turk or Albanian from an Italian? No?

Then he should kind[ly] shut his racist [Cheney]ing trap.
